Alaska's 1964 quake subject of talk
The horrific aftermath of the magnitude 9.0 earthquake and tsunami that devastated parts of Japan last week have reminded many Alaskans of our own disaster, the magnitude 9.2 quake that hit here on Good Friday, March 27, 1964. Lee Jordan, former publisher of the Star, will give a talk next month discussing the chapter in his book, "Reflections of a Reluctant Alaskan," that deals with the Good Friday quake. Jordan says he also plans to show previously unpublished photos. He picked the date before the Japan quake occurred, and did so because of its proximity to the anniversary of Alaska quake. Jordan's talk will take place at 4 p.m. Saturday, April 2 at the Eagle River library.
