Sgt. Logan Thompson, who grew up in Eagle River, prepares a .50-caliber machine gun to be mounted on a CH-53D Sea Stallion at Camp Bastion, Afghanistan, March 22. Thompson is an aerial observer with Marine Heavy Helicopter Squadron 463, which is currently supporting operations in southern Afghanistan under 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing (Forward). The squadron conducted back-to-back operations on March 22: a tactical resupply mission to aid Marines of 2nd Battalion, 3rd Marines with operations in southern Afghanistan; and a troop insertion involving soldiers of the Afghan National Army and Marines with Company G, 2nd Battallion, 1st Marine Regiment.
