Camp set for college hoops hopefuls

The Dimond High basketball program is sponsoring the 2011 Alaska Exposure Basketball Camp April 9-10 at Dimond and Bartlett.

The camp is designed to give female basketball players in grades 10-12 a chance to show off their hoops skills in front of college coaches. Among the schools represented at this year's camp are Clark College (Vancouver, Wash.), Highline Community College (Des Moines, Iowa), Peninsula College (Port Angeles, Wash.), Southwestern Oregon Community College (Coos Bay, Ore.) and Whatcom Community College (Bellingham, Wash.).

The camp runs from 8:30 a.m. until 3 p.m. on April 9 at Dimond and 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. April 10 at Bartlett. Cost is $75.

Mitchell to play in All-star game

Chugiak senior forward Colby Mitchell, who earned first-team All-Cook Inlet Conference and third-team All-State honors this season, has been selected as one of 24 seniors who will face off in this year's Alaska Association of Basketball Coaches Senior All-Star game.

The game, which will be played at 7 p.m. on April 9 at Colony High School, will feature many of Alaska's top seniors, including the Players of the Year from Class 1A (Oscar Takak, Elim), 2A (Adam Sage, Point Hope), 3A (Christian Leckband, Nome) and 4A (Devon Bookert, West).

Mitchell is the son of Bonnie and Kevin Mitchell of Chugiak.
