Scout-O-Rama showcases skills

Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, American Heritage Girls and Venturers will showcase their Scouting skills 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson. Access is at the main gate of Fort Richardson off the Glenn Highway. Scouts exhibits will be at the north end of the parking lot, next to the helipad. The free event features rope bridges, crafts, pinewood derby racing, skills development and more. Contact Owen Stribling at the Boy Scout office, 337-9547, for more information.

Chugiak hosts potential principals

Chugiak High principal Rick Volk is retiring after the school year, and parents, students and community members interested in meeting the finalists for the open position will have a chance to do so at 6:30 p.m. today, May 5, at the school library.

Changes afoot for other area principals

Two other area schools are losing their principals. Rick Toymil will be retiring from Alpenglow Elementary at the end of the school year. His replacement is Patrick Garrity, current principal at Sand Lake Elementary School.

Jon Forbes will be leaving Eagle Academy Charter School to become principal at Orion Elementary School at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, replacing Ruth Tweto.

A replacement for Forbes has not yet been made.
