Eagle River's Lauren Fritz gets some encouragement from starter Ed Sniffen at the beginning of the Bike for Women. Fritz finished 22nd.

Nearly 500 women turned out in bright sunshine for the Arctic Bicycle Club's 11th annual Bike for Women race at Chugiak High. Anchorage's Shannon Donley won the 9-mile race through the streets of South Birchwood, besting Eagle River's Sheryl Loan by 25 seconds.

Donley won the race for the second straight year, while Loan's second-place finish was her third such result in a row. The victory also allowed Donley to tie Loan's mark of four overall victories.

Loan's daughter, Kinsey, finished fourth.

Full race results are available at www.chainreactioncycles.us.

The annual Bike for Women also serves as a qualifier for the prestigious Skinny Raven "Triple Finisher" patch, which women can receive if they complete three of four annual races – the Ski for Women, Run for Women and Gold Nugget Triathlon.
