Ski-racing group opens to middle-schoolers
Alaska Nordic Racing, a cross-country ski training and competition club, is offering middle-school cross-country ski summer training. Training begins June 1 at Chugiak High and Mirror Lake Middle schools, and is open to incoming sixth- through eighth-graders.
Sessions are Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursday mornings through Aug. 4. The cost is $250, and scholarships are available.
Summer dryland training consists of trail running, ski-specific leg exercises, strength exercises, games and an introduction to rollerskiing.
Athletes must have a helmet and a bright reflective shirt, jacket or vest for all rollerskiing activities.
Athletes must wear appropriate outdoor training clothing and be prepared for changing weather.
