Police cite mother who calls in sick child
Anchorage police said they cited and released a 49-year-old woman for child neglect the morning of May 9 after they were called to an address on Coronado Road by Eagle River Elementary staff. The woman called the school to say her elementary-age daughter was sick but sounded impaired on the phone: She couldn't hold her train of thought and couldn't understand questions, police spokeswoman Anita Shell said. Officers who contacted the woman estimated her breath-alcohol levels at more than twice the legal limit, Shell said. The state Office of Children's Services responded to the address and took the child, she said.
