U.S. Army Alaska last week identified the engineer soldier from Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson who was found dead in his Anchorage garage as Spc. Arturo Martinez, 32, of Escondido, Calif.

Martinez was a combat engineer assigned to the 23rd Engineer Company (Sapper), 6th Engineer Battalion (Combat)(Airborne), 3rd Maneuver Enhancement Brigade, according to USARAK. He had returned in January from a yearlong deployment to Afghanistan.
