Eagle River High to get new principal
Alaska Star staff
The Anchorage School District announced this week that Natalie Burnett, principal at Eagle River High School since it opened in 2005, is taking the position of principal at Benny Benson Secondary School in Anchorage. She replaces Sam Spinella, who was selected as the new principal at Chugiak High earlier this month and is expected to be confirmed by the Anchorage School Board at its June 13 meeting.
Spinella replaces Chugiak's Rick Volk, who retired this year.
School District spokeswoman Heidi Embley said a replacement has not been selected yet for Burnett, and a meeting during which the public can meet the candidates is being organized for a soon-to-be announced date.
In other principal news, Rick Toymil retired from Alpenglow Elementary and is being replaced by Patrick Garrity, who was principal at Sand Lake Elementary. Jon Forbes is leaving Eagle Academy Charter School to become principal at Orion Elementary School at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, replacing Ruth Tweto. A replacement for Forbes has not yet been made.
