Two killed in Peninsula crash
Two young Chugiak residents were killed in a vehicle collision on Friday, July 22 on the Kenai Peninsula.
According to the Alaska State Troopers, Chugiak's Shaina Watt, 27, was driving southbound at around 6:30 p.m. in her Chevrolet SUV when she attempted to pass a vehicle at about Mile 40.5. Troopers said Watt lost control of her vehicle and collided with a northbound Chevy pickup truck driven by Palmer's James McPherson, 61.
Killed in the collision were 5-month old Hayley Watt and 4-year-old Levi Watt, both of Chugiak. Troopers said the infant died at the scene, while Shaina Watt, Levi Watt and an adult female passenger were airlifted to Central Peninsula Hospital.
Troopers said alcohol was not believed to be a factor in the accident.
