A torta is a Mexican sandwich, and they are the top-seller at Happy Burrito Restaurant.
The tortas are served on special bread with avocado, mayonnaise, lettuce and tomatoes. Customers can order their choice of meat (beef or ham) and other toppings.
The Cubana Torta, with thin-breaded steak, ham, cheese, lettuce, tomato and a chipotle sauce, is the best-selling torta.
Mario Curiel opened Happy Burrito Restaurant about 10 years ago at Grand Street and 24th Avenue. The restaurant moved to its current location about four years ago.
Aside from tortas, the restaurant's parrilladas also are popular items.
The item includes a dish of beef cooked with onions, tomatoes, ham, bacon and cheese served with a plate of tortillas.
Of course, as its name suggests, Happy Burrito Restaurant also serves a variety of burritos and other Mexican food favorites, all based on homemade recipes.
Most items are available for less that $5.
The eatery also offers a variety of fresh salsa, available at its salsa buffet. Its most popular offering is the jalapeno avocado salsa, said Mario's son, Antonio Curiel.
Customers at the small eatery can expect quick service and satisfying dishes, Antonio Curiel said.
"We want people to have something they might find in Mexico," he said. "It's authentic, good food."
