Takoda-Quin L. Zimmerman, 12, died peacefully on Saturday, Oct. 23, 2010, surrounded by family and friends at the Central Peninsula Hospital in Soldotna.

A vigil service was 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 28, at Our Lady of Angels Catholic Church in Kenai. A memorial mass was 5 p.m. Friday Oct. 29, at the Nikiski Middle/High School auditorium. Fathers Joe Dowling, O.M.I. and Andrew Sensinig, O.M.I will.

Takoda was born in Soldotna on October 26, 1997. He attended Nikiski North Star Elementary and Nikiski Middle/High School.

In 2005, he was diagnosed with a rare disease known as ALD. Despite the obstacles this disease presented, he was blessed with incredible strength, perseverance, and an amazing sense of humor. He remained positive about life, infecting others with joy by always laughing and smiling. Takoda was a fun boy who loved Pokemon and family very much. He was a dancer, prankster, soccer player, snow boarder, swimmer, Pokemon master, super fan and fiddle player.

He was a very compassionate boy who tried to right things when they were wrong. Takoda loved to make others feel good about themselves.

"White Thunderbird 'Whobskigonayahsh', May the Great Spirit walk always by your side and protect you forever and ever. Takoda leaves behind many wonderful friends, caregivers and teachers that provided love and support that enhanced his quality of life. He was embraced by God's loving hands when he passed away on Saturday," his family said.

He is survived by his parents, Troy and Linda Zimmerman; his brother, Trey-Alexander; his sister, Tika-Marie; his paternal grandparents, Terrell and Sally Zimmerman of Melrose, Minn.; maternal grandparents, George and Yasuko Lehtinen of Soldotna; uncles and aunts, John and TJ Hessburg of Grosse Point Park, Mich.; Travis Zimmerman of Garrison, Minn.; Trent and Melissa Zimmerman of Sartell, Minn.; Jeff and Pako Whannell of Kenai; Wayne and Sandra Lehtinen of Coco Beach, Fla.; and numerous loving cousins.
